AEON Bank Adds an AI ‘Financial Purr-Sona’ That Sorts Customers by Their Money Habits

AEON Bank, which describes itself as Malaysia’s first digital Islamic bank, has added an AI-powered feature called Financial Purr-Sona to its app, according to a company announcement carried by Malay Mail on October 26. The free feature runs on Neko Sensei, the bank’s AI personal financial coach, which analyses activity in the app across four habits: saving, spending, planning, and settling financing or payments that are due.

Based on that analysis, Neko Sensei assigns each customer one of four personas, named Tauke Tabung, Planner Pro Max, Boss Anti-Bazir and Hutang Slayer. The bank says the persona is dynamic and can change as a customer’s habits and budgeting health change, and that customers who use more of the app, from Savings Account-i and Savings Pot to DuitNow QR, Personal Financing-i and bill payments, will get more accurate personalisation. A Level-up option gives free, actionable budgeting tips from the AI coach. To get started, customers tap the Neko Sensei icon on the home screen and complete a short quiz.

The bank is pairing the feature with gamified rewards. From 16 to 31 October, activating a persona earns an RM10 Boost Juice voucher, and from 1 January to 31 March 2027 customers can complete Neko Missions to collect 20 Neko Paws for an RM10 FamilyMart voucher. AEON Bank, launched in May 2024 and owned equally by AEON Financial Service of Japan and AEON Credit Service (M) Berhad, says it will keep developing Neko Sensei alongside other app features.

What it means in practice

Financial coaching is one of the lower-risk ways for banks to put AI in front of consumers, because it advises rather than moves money. It still relies on detailed analysis of transaction data, which makes the government’s consultation on an AI and personal data protection framework relevant to products like this one. It also fits the national push to widen everyday AI use set out in Budget 2027’s plans for a sovereign AI cloud and free AI subscriptions. For customers, the practical value will depend on whether the tips are specific enough to change behaviour rather than simply label it.

This is a company announcement, and AEON Bank did not publish user numbers or evidence of outcomes. The next sign of traction will be whether the bank reports how many customers activate a persona, and whether other Malaysian digital banks follow with similar AI coaches.
